2017 has been an amazing year both personally and professionally. I have experienced tremendous growth year to date for my company. My sales year-to-date date (October 24, 2016) have already surpassed 2015 full year sales by 59%. I attribute this to the addition of new customers, the growth of my redesign business, referrals, and repeat business from happy clients. The growth I have experienced has also resulted in the need for expansion, and I am thrilled to have officially hired an assistant. I am pleased to say I am loving what I do more with each completed project, and am thrilled with the way my business has allowed me to have amazing work life balance so that I can support my family and enjoy life.
For 2016, I have maintained my role of Marketing Chair and Secretary for the RESA GTA Chapter, managing all social media, the website, sourcing new suppliers to partner with, helping to plan and promote events for the Chapter, encouraging prospective members to join, etc. Specifically, I attended many meetings, in some cases, I brought in speakers that would benefit the members in some way, I welcomed existing and prospective members, and always contributed to discussions regarding the benefits of joining RESA and becoming involved.
In addition to being involved at the Chapter level, I take every opportunity possible to promote RESA as an organization. Specifically, whenever meeting a new prospective client, (homeowner or Realtor), I will explain what RESA is, my involvement, and reiterate the importance of working with a stager that is part of this organizing. I often will meet with Realtors that are just starting out and I will take the time to educate them on the staging process, benefits of staging, and the existence of RESA. At the various trade-shows I have attended, I proudly displayed my ranking among the top 10 Rising Star Home Stagers in North America (2013), my trophy for being among the top 10 Occupied Stagers of the year for 2015 and 2016, and again, explained RESA and my involvement. Most recently, I have developed a presentation for Realtors which I presented for the first time this month for a local real estate office. RESA’s reports on pricing and other statistics are well-embedded in the presentation, as well as more information on how realtors can use RESA to their advantage. The office manager was so impressed that he would like me to be involved in training for their new Realtors.
Of course, in addition, I proudly display the RESA logo on all of my marketing materials, including business cards, brochures, and my website which also includes links back to the RESA website.
I try to participate, either through volunteer time, or donations of gift certificates, whenever possible with various charitable organizations. In 2015/2016, I was a regular volunteer as a showroom guide at the Furniture Bank, a charity that picks up gently used furniture and housewares from homes or businesses and transfers them to individuals who have recently transitioned out of homelessness and displacement. I loved helping clients to select their furniture and housewares for their new homes. I plan to arrange for them to come out to a chapter meeting in 2017 as I think that home stagers are an excellent resource for them for donations (either staging inventory or clients’ furniture/accessories they are looking to offload). I also strongly encourage my clients to donate any unwanted items to various organizations and in some case will take donation items on their behalf.
In addition to volunteering, I also redesigned a women’s shelter (Act To End Violence Against Women) at no charge for this year which was hugely rewarding and much needed, as well as donating a large amount of staging inventory to a group home in Barrie, Ontario.
2016 has been a huge year for SpaceStyle. I am very proud of how much I have been able to grow the company in such a short period of time, surpassing my annual revenue goals, and even needing to hire extra staff. I can’t wait to see what 2017 has in store!
