Designing First Impressions is proud to be one of Calgary's pioneer staging companies. Established in 2004 I was professionally trained through Canadian Staging Professionals. Continuing education has been a major part of the continued success and longevity of Designing First Impressions. I have completed the Interior Design Program at the University of Calgary, the Sherwin Williams Certificate of Colour and hold the CCSP Masters designation.
Holding current memberships with RESA and Canadian Staging Professionals I am excited to be part of the committed mentorship team to help new graduates develop and continue building their skills they have learned in the CCSP training program. It’s a such a rewarding way to pay it forward and give back to the staging community. I invite students on site to get hands on experience. This will include being involved in the consultations, décor/furniture selection, furniture configurations and the design to best enhance the specific property. I attend the local training classes to meet the new students and offer follow up calls after the program to answer any questions they may have. Several students have had weekly conference calls to assist with their marketing, sourcing out inventory and any business support they require. I am passionate about giving new students the confidence toward a successful staging career. After they have worked a few times with me I organize consultations and projects for them to try on their own, while always just being a phone call away. My favorite advice to give new stagers when they are feeling frustrated is say “The difference between winning and losing is most often not quitting” – Walt Disney.
I have been a proud supporter of Habitat For Humanity by assisting homeowners to collect donations and household items. As part of their homework task we assign sellers during the consultation, I have them edit and set aside all items that we can offer to low income families to help put the “ground beneath their feet”. I will drop these items off to Habitat when homeowners cannot. I also donated my time to stage the show suite for one of Habitat For Humanity’s housing projects.
Designing First Impressions is a corporate financial supporter of other community organizations including The Dream Center, a facility to re-integrate the disadvantaged back into the community as productive members, and the Owen Hart Foundation which helps provide scholarships and housing opportunities for people who have limited resources and unlimited potential.
I believe community education on the benefits of home staging is a key factor in the success of this growing industry. I have been featured on the Global Television News, Global Television Morning Show, Dream Homes Magazine and had several appearances on the AM 660 Radio. Founding the Designer Tips Of The Week on a local radio station I offered quick weekly tips to sellers and explain why Homestagers were an essential part of the marketing team when selling their home.
I believe we are only as successful as the people we surround ourselves with and I am grateful to belong to such a strong home staging community in Calgary.
